Idris Elba honoured at BAFTA TV awards for contributions as actor and writer

Idris Elba was honoured with the Bafta Special Award for his contributions to television as an actor, writer and producer at the 2020 virtual ceremony. But the 47-year-old used his acceptance speech as an opportunity to encourage his peers to help each other out.

Elba said in his speech that he doesn’t think he’s particualry special and is more grounded because of his east London upbringing.

The star – once mooted for the James Bond role called upon his peers to show more respect to diversity.
