Up to 60 migrants may have been trapped in a boat that sank in a Turkish lake last week in stormy weather, according to government officials. Turkey launched a search-and-rescue mission involving helicopters and boats after the vessel carrying people across Lake Van was reported missing on Saturday. So far rescue teams have recovered six bodies. Eleven people have been detained in connection with the tragedy, and a village administrator has been removed from office for delaying reporting the incident. Smugglers are believed to be transporting migrants across the lake to escape police checkpoints on nearby roads.
