Coronavirus: Toronto makes masks mandatory after pointing to US problems

July 1, 2020

Canada's largest city has made masks mandatory in public indoor spaces to help fight the coronavirus pandemic. Toronto Mayor, John Tory has told the public there "You've told us you don’t want to see a repeat of what you see when you turn on your TV and see reports from the United States." The US has the highest number of cases of Covid-19 in the world – 2.6 million – and more than 127,000 people in the country have died with the disease. Toronto city council approved a bylaw, which will come into effect on Tuesday, and will be reviewed in September, with the Mayor saying they must do everything they can, to avoid the flare ups seen in other jurisdictions.
